What one call covers

In the order it happens on site. No coordinating three vendors and a rental yard, and one invoice at the end of it.

The layout

Freedom Industries stakes and GPS-locates every test hole

The One Call

Freedom Industries files the PA One Call ticket and clears the locates

The machine and operator

Freedom Industries provides the excavator and the operator, not your crew

The excavation

Freedom Industries opens the test pits and digs to the limiting zone

The testing

Freedom Industries provides the double rings, the crew and the water

The backfill and the report

Freedom Industries restores the site, then writes it up for your engineer

What we do

Freedom Industries Group works out of Beaver County, for the engineers, developers, contractors and townships who need to know what the ground under a site will actually take.

Test crew laying out screening locations across a site

Site screening

Freedom Industries tests across the property before the layout is locked in, evenly distributed the way the state expects, so you know where infiltration works and where it does not. Where site conditions call for something different, we propose an alternative layout with the justification behind it, subject to your approval and the reviewing agency’s. Cheaper to find out now than after the plan is drawn.

Double ring infiltrometer set in a test pit

Basin and trench testing

Freedom Industries sets the tests in the footprint, within a vertical foot of the bottom elevation you intend to build when possible, and carries the pit two feet deeper so the soils under the floor are logged instead of assumed.

Confirmation test on a finished basin subgrade

Construction confirmation

Once the infiltration surface is cut to final grade, Freedom Industries retests it to confirm the soils still perform. Pennsylvania requires this on any facility converted from an E&S sediment trap or basin, and on any facility where the contractor cannot show three successful infiltration SCMs built in the past two years. The result has to come back at no less than 80 percent of the design value.

The infiltration report

Freedom Industries writes it up: location map with surveyed coordinates, a soil log for every pit, the raw readings behind each test, and a design rate for each facility. Prepared for review and seal by your licensed professional. If you would rather we handle the seal, we can have the report reviewed and sealed by a licensed professional engineer, priced separately and spelled out in the fee schedule with your proposal.

Two ways to run it

Full service, or engineer-led if your own people are doing the testing. Either way Freedom Industries files the One Call, provides the machine, the operator and the water, digs to the limiting zone and puts the ground back the way we found it.

Full serviceWe handle the whole job, start to finish.
Engineer-ledYou run the tests. We do everything around them.

How it works

Three steps from your first call to a report on your desk.

1
Aerial site layout with staked test locations on a 200 foot grid

Call us

Send the plan, or just the address and a rough idea of where the basin is going. We come back with how many tests it takes, when we can be there, and what it costs.

2
Excavator opening a test pit on site

We show up

Machine, operator and crew arrive together. Holes get staked, pits get dug and logged, and every test runs until the rate stabilizes, with water temperature recorded as it goes.

3

You get the report

Location map, soil logs, photos, every reading we took, and a design rate for each facility that is temperature-normalized to 65°F, combined as a geometric mean and reduced the ten percent the state calls for. Ready for your engineer to review and seal.

Background

Freedom Industries Group works out of Beaver County, Pennsylvania.

The engineering side of the business came up through the field, running equipment and doing carpentry on general contracting work, then earned a civil engineering degree and spent the next thirty years in civil engineering site development: planning, design and construction. That is still the day job, estimating heavy civil site work, which means weeks spent looking at what soils reports do to a bid.

The field side came up around farm and construction equipment. Machine, crew and testing on site, all of it hands on.

One call gets you people who know what your engineer needs on paper and how to get it out of the ground.

Freedom Industries Group

Built on the idea that a client should be able to hand off the whole job and stop chasing vendors. We test and report to Pennsylvania DEP's stormwater manual using the double-ring method, and every reading behind our numbers goes in the report.
